Excerpt:
Vanessa
The
first day of school came too quickly. Mother managed to keep me busy all week
long, dragging me to piano lessons, Pilates, and back-to-school shopping. I
hardly had any time to spend with Ava, but last night we managed to talk about
our schedules.
“We
have no classes together,” I said, disappointed, as I compared the two pieces
of paper. “You’re taking AP Calculus?” I glanced up at Ava in disbelief while
she played with a loose thread on my comforter.
“Yup,”
she replied, like it wasn’t a big deal.
“That’s
like...really advanced.”
“Yup.”
“I’m not even taking that.”
She
glanced up at me with an amused look and a sly grin. “Are you insinuating that
I’m dumber than you?”
“No!
Of course not, it’s just...you have to test into that course and the exam is
really hard.”
Oh, jeez,
like that was even better.
Insert foot in mouth. I should have stopped while I
was ahead.
Ava
chuckled, amused. “Van, relax, I’ve always been good at math. I didn’t flunk
eighth grade because I was stupid, you know.”
“Then
why did you?”
“It’s
getting late, we should get to bed.” Ava jumped off my bed and headed toward
the bathroom.
“Oh,
all right, good night then.”
Ava
stopped suddenly in front of my dresser, slowly turning around.
“Should
I be concerned that you may have developed a sadistic personality? Or do you
just have something against glass people?”
“Huh?”
What in God’s name is she talking about?
“You
get off on mutilating innocent ballet dancers?” She was holding my broken
figurine in her hands. I buried my face in a pillow, laughing hysterically once
I put two and two together. “You have to stop running into shit, Vanessa,
you’re really going to hurt yourself.” Ava had already guessed what happened to
my poor ballerina.
As
my laughter subsided, I was able to regain my voice. “I don’t know how it
happens,” I admitted.
Ava’s
freakishly expressive eyebrow rose while the other one slanted.
“Really,
I don’t.” I held my arms up in surrender.
“Be
extra careful.” She placed the figurine back on the dresser.
Opening the bathroom door, she waved the back of her hand at me before saying
goodnight and shutting it behind her.
Why
did I get the feeling she was an expert at deflecting questions she didn’t want
to answer? She’d flipped the entire conversation from her to me in a matter of
seconds.
What
a ninja.

What
inspired you to write the KIS series?
The story of two girls fighting over the affection
of a boy had been with me for years, it wasn’t until my husband asked if there
was anything out there like it, and there wasn’t or isn’t. I wanted to write
what I saw in high school, two girls
fighting over what they wanted. And not the norm we usually read about; two
boys one girl.
Top 5 things you didn’t know
about becoming a published author:
-You
don’t have as much control over things.
-Everything
has a deadline.
-Your
vision is not everyone else’s vision.
-It’s
not less stressful.
-There’s
more pressure, I feel to be successful than how I felt going indie.
5 Reasons to
love my main characters:
-Ava’s ability to be bold, we all struggle with that at some
point in our life
-Vanessa’s innocence because that’s something we should all
hold onto as long as possible.
-The way the girls love each other, family is everything to
them.
-Gabriel’s hot bod—wait no he’s seventeen—Gabriel’s pretty
blue eyes.
-Their love of ice cream.
5 facts about the KIS
trilogy:
-All
books will have K, I, and S in the beginning of the title.
-There
was a threesome scene I chose not to include.
-Eagle
Academy does not exist either does Tony’s.
-KIS1
doesn’t end until KIS2, and in KIS3 you’ll see a little bit of Ava and Vanessa.
-It
took me nine months to write KIS1 and four months to write KIS2 even though
KIS2 is longer.
How do you make your
characters believable?
I
try to make them believable by writing things I have experienced first-hand.
Authors you admire:
Jay
Crownover, Jennifer Armentrout, Samantha Young, Jaime McGuire, Abbi Glines,
Penelope Douglas, Alice Clayton, and Christian Lauren, to name a few.

-Olivia
Snow was born in Mexico and came to this beautiful country at the age of two.
-Olivia
Snow has never traveled outside of Colorado.
-Olivia
Snow has an addiction to candles.
-Olivia
Snow hasn’t used a PC in almost seven years.
Describe Ava in one
sentence.
Ava is a terribly lost girl with daddy issues.
Describe Vanessa in
one sentence.
Vanessa is loyal to a fault and has a problem saying no to
people.
Describe Gabriel in
one sentence.
Gabriel is the guy boys want to be and the girls want to
date.
Favorite and least
favorite scene to write in Keep It Secret?
Least favorite scene to write was Gabriel’s pivotal scene.
Without giving too much away, that was really hard to do. My favorite scene(s)
to write were when Ava was having cravings. It took me to a place I didn’t know
existed in my brain. I enjoyed writing the dark stuff.
What’s your guilty
pleasure?
Reality TV. Love me some crazy bitches.
If you weren’t an
author what would you be doing right now?
I don’t like to be called an author I feel like that should
be reserved to when you get to Best Seller status. That’s just my opinion. I am
first and foremost a mother, so when I’m not writing I’m with my kids. I have
three so they take a lot of my time.
What do you consider
your greatest achievement?
I won’t be corny and say my kids, so I’d say my greatest
achievement thus far is being, but not becoming a statistic.
If you could meet
anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
H.H. Holmes, I’d like to know what makes a man that twisted.
What is your go to
snack food when writing?
Skittles and red bull.
If you could sit down
face to face with any of your characters, who would you choose and why?
With Cynthia, Vanessa’s mother so I could shank the bitch.
What are the top 3
things on your bucket list?
Travel to Italy
Perfect an English accent
Get the nerve to visit a haunted house, like a real one with
real ghosts.
If you could live
anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
England, I love the culture, accents and rich history of the
country.
Favorite Word and
Least Favorite Word?
Favorite word: Fuck
Least favorite: The other F word.
Biggest fear?
I think like any writer our biggest, or at least one of our
biggest fears is having no one like our stuff. We create so people can enjoy
our stories, but if people hate it...well that would suck.
Deepest regret?
Not taking my education serious enough.
Favorite memory?
Pushing all three kids out of my vagina. Not all at once, of
course.
Worst flaw?
I have a filthy mouth.
Most annoying pet
peeve?
When a certain man, we shall refer to him as Mr. Snow,
doesn’t take the two extra steps to throw away his trash and just sets it on
the kitchen counter…like seriously?
If you could change
one thing about yourself…what would it be?
Perk breasts. I’d love
perky breasts.
