EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
from The Christmas Wish by Jill Jaynes
Her mother held out a small white box with a red ribbon
wrapped around it. “It’s yours now,” she said, as Allie drew out the Christmas
ornament nestled inside. “You’re starting your new life in your first home.”
Allie knew this ornament well. It had been handed down from
mother to oldest daughter in her family for five generations, and had graced
her mother’s tree for as long as she could remember.
“It’s more than just
an heirloom. There’s magic in it.”
Allie widened her eyes. “Who are you and what have you done
with my practical, ‘there’s no such thing as the Tooth Fairy’ mother?”
Her mother smiled. “I’m telling you what my mother told me
and her mother told her. It’s part of the deal. On the first Christmas that you
use the ornament, you get to make a wish. Just one. And it will come true.”
“And did you make a wish? Did it work for you?
“If you ever tell a soul I’ll deny it.” Her mother glanced
past Allie’s shoulder out the front window at the car where her husband waited.
“But, I did. And it did.”
“Wow. Okay then.” She looked at her mother, trying to wrap
her mind around this revelation.
“Remember, you get just one wish, so make it count- the more
specific, the better. Don’t waste it on world peace, this is just for you.” She
strode to the door. “I’d better get going. Your father’s patience has its
limits.”
“What did you wish for?” Allie had to know.
Her mother stopped with her hand on the doorknob and turned
back. She shrugged a shoulder. “What else? True love. Bye now.” And with a last
swirl of perfume, she was gone.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Jill
Jaynes began her love affair with romance when she was a teenager growing up in
Southern California, spending many a late-night under the covers with a
flashlight and good romance novel. This
early addiction stuck, and she discovered one day that telling great stories
was even more fun than reading them.
When
she’s not writing, you can find her a) wine-tasting, hiking or otherwise
hanging out with her awesome husband, b) walking her two high-maintenance dogs,
c) plotting her next story with her writer-daughter or d) working at her day
job in her spare time.
